Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church Restoration
Bay St. Louis, MississippiFor nearly 175 years Our Lady of the Gulf Church has served the parishioners of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The current church, completed in 1908, has been through many storms and repairs most recently after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. While those repairs left the building serviceable, much remained to be done. Plaster damage dulled paint, outdated lighting, and time-worn cabinetry and millwork left this holy space less than inspiring. Also, the marble altar rail remained crated up in storage awaiting its return.
The project scope included updates to all of these areas once the new roof was installed, pointing of brick and protective coverings to windows was complete. The interior surfaces were cleaned, repaired, and painted from floor to ceiling with a crisp new color scheme based on the original but updated to enliven the space. Artists were commissioned to repair and improve the decorative figures and stenciling painted throughout the space, and lighting was updated to current standards using efficient and color correct LED lamps. New historically accurate pendant fixtures were purchased and installed above the side aisles.
